Malmo is a signatory to the Covenant of Mayors, along with over 3000 other cities, all committed to reducing carbon emissions by at least 20% by 2020. Sustainable City Malmö
By 2020, the City of Malmö's own organization will be climate neutral and by 2030 the whole municipality will run on 100% renewable energy.
Conference on Sustainability Certification of Urban Areas held in Malmö
Sweden GBC and City of Malmö invited companies and municipalities to join the conference in Mid September on Sustainability Certification of Urban Areas. During the conference Peter Örn, Chair of the Swedish Delegation for Sustainable Cities, said:
- The crucial step might not be the mighty politicians deciding to take the steps, but the citizens demanding a sustainable change.
No ridiculous car trips in Malmö!

Malmö has signed the Covenant of Mayors initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Covenant of Mayors is an EU initiative, which aims at improving energy efficiency significantly in the urban environment through a formal commitment by the cities to reduce their CO2 emissions.
